networking an older laptop

My mom has an older laptop that I want to hook up to our home network. It doesn't have a network card in it. What's the cheapest way to connect it to our ethernet router? USB to ethernet adapter?

Both USB to Ethernet & PCMCIA to Ethernet are around $20.

Take into consideration that if your Network is 100Mb/sec. capable you better off with PCMCIA. USB1.1 is limited to ~10Mb/sec.

USB 2.0 can do better, but I doubt that an old Laptop has USB2.
