Networking a printer?

Ok, i'm sure there is a website that discusses this, but i'm not sure if this is somehow router specific or if it all works the same. My friend has a D-link wireless router. Two computers use the connections, a desktop, and an IBM T42 laptop. The printer in question is connected USB to the desktop, running Windows ME on an old HP pavillion. How do i set it up so that the laptop can wirelessly print to the desktop? is this possible?

Make sure both computers can see each other on network. They have to be in the same workgroup. Right click on the printer, and select "sharing".
Share the printer.

After that you install the printer on the laptop using the network optinon instead of local. Will probably ask you for drivers.

Ok, i dont think i need a wireless print server!?! Because the printer is physcially connected to the desktop. Basically i need the laptop to tell the router to tell the desktop to print through USB. So what do i need to make this possible?

1) Follow Skyking's tips.

2) Have the drivers ready.

3) Browse the network with the lappy and find the printer. Right click and choose install, or use that add printer wizard to add a network printer on a different computer.

When you install the printer on the desktop make sure you make the printer a network printer and not a locally attached printer. Then enable printer and file sharing. Then the laptop assuming it is on the same network should be able to see it or search for it.

Being that the printer is already installed, can i simply change it to a network printer, or do i need to reinstall something?
