Networking 2 PC together via NIC :(

I have a problem hoping that you guys can help me. I'm trying to connect two pc together via NIC only. Let's see what i did wrong.

I have two pc sitting next to each other right. One have a Netgear NIC and the other PC have a different brand NIC (Not sure if it makes a difference).

They're both running Windows ME. The NICs installed properly and the driver is also installed.

I connect the RJ-45 Cable from one pc to the next PC. Restart the computers. Then nothing happen.

On one PC I have a Dial-up. The other one doesn't have anything. I want to share the internet connection through my NIC.

I used the Internet Connection Wizard from Microsoft and tried it so many times and it didn't work. It seems that the 2 NICs doesn't work at all.

But when i took it over my Girlfriend's house, the cable modem works fine with it.

Did you get a cross-over or rolled cable to connect the two?
It is the equivalent of a null modem cable for networks.

It sounds like you're using regular patch cable and not a crossover cable. If you are not using a hub, then you have to use a crossover cable to get the network connection. they can be purchased at just about any store that sells computer products.

You could get a crossover cable, but I'd suggest just get a cheap 4 port hub (it may be $40). PC's are like rabbits - if you have 2 now then you're sure to have 3 in a few months.

LOL. Anyway, the crossover cable solved it. Everything is working excellent 🙂 I even got Internet Connection Sharing enable too. Too bad my connection is 28k
