Networked HP 4050 cannot be seen by ntwk!

Can some of you guys post your findings on this? I have an HP Laserjet 4050 attached to the LPT port of a network PC. It's through this PC that the rest of the network normally gets to this printer.

Well, the computer blew up, I fixed/replaced the hardware, but certain network settings were lost. What's the best way to get the network to find this printer?

I've tried "Add Printer" wizard... can't find this (or any other station) on the internal network... there's something strange happening here. All PCs are definately connected to the network fine - if there's intenet access and the software works - there's ntwk connection. Simple.

But for some reason the path to this station and its printer just doesn't seem to want to go... pointers?

HELP! I want to get this job done today - I have two hours.

The network printer doesn't have its own address - it's attached to a local PC. Other machines still need to access it... I can now find the other stations through "Network Neighbourhood" but not the printer.

I'm sure it's just one tiny thing I'm forgetting.......

Since the printer is connected directly to a a pc, you don't need to worry about the printers static IP. Install the printer on the computer that it's connected to and then you can share it (if you have file and printers sharing enabled). Go to the other computers and add printer>network printer>browse

You know - I was so busy thinking "network" I forgot all about "sharing". 😱

Once the printer was shared, all I needed to do was go to each station and "add new printer" again. I'd hate to have to do so in an office of 100 stations, but a place like that would either have a network printer or a print server to begin with and I wouldn't have this problem. 🙂

It's been fixed, and I give my thanks to the great guys who jogged my memory by telling me exactly what I needed to do. 😛

... I still can't believe I forgot sharing.... yeesh. I've been doing this for a long time... and yet not often enough to be *really* sharp at it. But then I only do this for my very-part-time second job for a little extra cash and experience. 😀

[sigh] SOMEday I'll get a full-time IT position..... someday....

BTW, thanks again. 😀
