Networked DVD Players

Does anyone have a networked DVD player? What has been your experience with it so far? How well does it play your recorded videos from your PC? I was just browsing, and found this link to an Oritron NPD3117 On-media networked DVD player: Link . It sounds, in theory, to be very cool, if it works good. You can get either wired or wireless configurations, which is cool, but you have to make that choice when you buy the unit, I think. As far as media types, this one has the capability to play mpeg-1, mpeg-2, mpeg-4, divx, mp3 and wma. That pretty much covers me. I am curious at what resolutions encoded video will play, and perhaps with divx, if all encoded media is supported (from 3.x to 5.x). Any input would be welcomed.

You could achieve the same results with a Playstation 2 and some accessories. But it does look interesting. I bet its fun trying to network the player with Windows 😀

One point is you'll probably want a wired connection (not wifi) for mpeg2 and high-quality divx unless the player supports G not just B. wifi B claims 11 mbps but is usually only 2-3 even under perfect test conditions. Wifi should be fine for MP3.

You could almost do the same with an HTPC, If you used really budget parts 🙂

This has a remote and is in a nice package, and probably has a better interface, so this is a better deal.

Pretty cool, never knew these things existed.

How would one network this with a computer though?

This definitely looks cool in theory, but I do not know anyone who has had an Oritron DVD player last more than 6 months. IMO they are the worst brand for dvd players, and if you buy it you will be wasting your money.

I am trying to get my high speed internet signal to my 65" TV, that is why the DVD player sounds interesting...I do not have a TV out on my computer & tried the TV view gold which I hated. Without replacing my video card does anyone have a reasonable solution for me?
