Networked 2TB HDD suddenly not seen

I have been accessing this WD Elements 2TB HD from my various wirelessly and ethernet connected PC's, but today they couldn't see it. I went to the machine to which it's USB connected, accessed Sharing and Security for the data folder and it was not shared. Obviously, it was shared before. Crystaldiskinfo says the drive is good, WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics says it's good too. What could cause this kind of thing? If I get an NAS (figure I will), will I escape such things?

Can other computers on the network see any shared resources at all on the computer that is hosting the USB drive?

Redo all the shares again and hopefully it will work.

Using a USB Drive connected to a computer as a Network sharing is just like your experience Iffy.

If one is already using USB Drive and it works OK connected to a Wireless Router with USB capacity, the location of the shares would be more stable.
