I plan to build a new PC and network it to my old PC. Spec's:

New PC: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard
(Pentium 4, Socket 478, 875P, ATX, 4GB DDR, 800MHz FSB)
(Onboard) LAN Intel CSA 82547EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Ethernet - RJ45 Twisted-Pair (XBaseT) interface
1 x RJ45 Back Panel I/O Port
Windows XP Pro

Old PC: Pentium 166, about 7 years old
Windows 95 OSR2-B

Internet access: Currently dial-up, but I am about to switch to DSL. Cable
internet access is not available to me.

I plan on using a residential gateway router to share files, printer, network
connection, internet access, and (optionally) scanner. I've been advised that
the old PC should use 10/100 NIC, rather than a a Gigabit NIC. I've also been
advised that PPPoE DSL access may be problematic with router, depending on the
accompanying software.

Request brand/model #'s or website references for 10/100 NIC, residential
gateway router, and software (if good software not included with recommended
router).

Linksys router is all u need to know, they can take any PPPoE dsl connection you can throw at em'. And The person who told yout o use 10/100mbps NIC in the old machine was VERY RIGHT! You cannot force a gigabit per second of data through a machine THAT SLOOOOOOW! Hell, i would just use a 10-baseT card in that 100mbps is even pushing that old ticker.
