Network won't start

I am using Win2000 and have a small LAN (2 PCs) and for some reason the main PC will not recognize the network. I even bought a new crossover cable just to make sure the cable was not the problem. I have made sure that the onboard 3Com 3C920B-EMB (integrated on a ASUS A7N8X mobo) has the proper IP of 192.168.0.1 and the 255.255.255.0 submask. It worked for a few days last month, but hasn't worked since. I had no problems with this on my old set-up and running Win98SE.

TIA for any help y'all can give me.

Primary rig is in my sig below and uses the card I listed above. The other rig is a Gateway with a Linksys LNE100TX LAN card connected together with a crossover cable as stated above. That IP is 192.168.0.2 with the same subnet mask. There is no router or other stuff and ZA had no problem letting traffic pass back and forth between the 2 PCs. I don't have internet connection sharing enabled.

I have even tried adding a 3rd NIC to the primary PC and even that did not work.

Did you look at Control Panel System Properties to make sure that the NICs drivers are installed correctly?

I.e. no IRQ conflict and no ?Ghost? (the yellow thingie) installation.
