New to Nwking. Researched several forums and MS Knowledgebase, but having problems. Wme and Wxp PC's are hooked up using onboard NIC and CAT5e crossover cable.
1. Used Network setup wizards on both PC's. Wxp PC sees itself and Wme PC but Wme PC only sees itself. Also, there is nothing in the wizards or MS Help about CAT5E crossover cables.
2. Tried to use Wxp network wizard on Wme machine, same problem. When I double click on Wme PC icon on Wxp machine error mssg. "NO ACCESS". Look for other computers on Wme PC results in "no results"
3. In network wizards, try to set up connection using the SiS ethernet connection. Wme machine is very confusing in network properties box. Has about 10 network connections installed: Client for MS,AOL adapter,Aol dial upadapter, dial up, dial up #2 VPN,internet connection sharing, internet conn sharing dial up,Internet conn sharing internet connect, NDISWAN, SiS 900 PCI, TCP/IP SiS 900 PCI.... and about 7 others. Also what is primary network logon? Have checked to make sure computers are different names and both belong to MS Home workgroup.
First, can Wxp and Wme machine be networked?
2.Using CAT5E crossover cable?
3. Would like to resolve network situation, then later mess with the internet connection which is dial up on Wme PC.
4. Have been unable to determine if both PC's are using the same protocol. Wme network dialogue box seems to refer to all network connections as ways to hook to the internet, which I don't want right now.
Hope someone can help. I've burned up two weekends and gone nowhere.
Thanks
Trio
