Network Win XP, Win 98SE

EDIT: Ok I see other similar posts, will read up, if you have anything to add, Please do

I have a Win XP machine, and a Win 98SE machine hooked to a linksys Router. Both machines can ping each other, both are on the same domain, and have unique names. When I got to LAN connection properties and "Find other Computers", the 2nd machine can't be seen by Win XP?
I know that I can use the XP "Wizard", but was trying to do it manually to help the learning process.
My goal is to be able to upload files to the 98 machine, share the printer attached to the XP machine, use the 2 machines for a gaming LAN, and stuff like that.
I assume that I would need an FTP program to upload to the 98 machine, but not sure if I can FTP to a 192.168.0.x address?
Any help or tips so I can understand this somewhat is appreciated.
TIA,
Mike G

ps: more confusion, the XP box is using NTFS, do I need to "share" the drive(s) that have files I want to upload? Or will the Win 98 machine "see" the XP machine when the LAN is set up "right"?
Do I have to make the XP machine a "server"?
As you can see, more ??? keep popping up

edit: both machine have separate IPs, TCPIP is installed. also both can acess the WWW
