Network Vista Desktop with XP laptop - please help!

Hi. I am trying to network my dad's laptop (xp) with the vista desktop they just got. the router is hooked up to the desktop. the internet connection works on the laptop. but i can NOT get it to network. i don't know if it's some sort of security he put on his netgear or what....but i have renamed the workgroups, run the setup wizard on both...just can't get it to work. i'm not sure what to check on the router settings....

PLEASE HELP!!
