I have a pretty simple question. The network storage drives that are out there can they only be access through the web or can I just see them regular like a shared drive? I was looking at the linksys wrt350n router because it has the storage link on it but that hardware is crap from what I read. So now I am looking for a networked storage drive that I can easily save files through my network places?

Network Drive Aka NAS is a drive that is connected to the Network rather than to a specific computer.

It gets its own private IP, and it can be set to be shares and it can be accessed from inside the LAN or through the Internet just like any other share on the Network.

Network Attached Storage (NAS) Benchmarks @ SmallNetBuilder

For maximum performance, you really need to build your own NAS, but if you are looking for an off-the-shelf solution with decent performance at relatively low cost, take a look at the following two products:

Buffalo Linkstation Pro

D-Link DNS-323

The Buffalo Linkstation ships with its own drive has somewhat better performance, but the D-Link will support two drives of your choice instead of one. Both run fairly quiet.

I've got a Buffalo Linkstation Pro, which I got after I returned the Netgear SC101 -- the Netgear was a piece of trash. I had the Buffalo up and running in about two minutes.
