Background: Existing setup is a Linksys NSLU2 and two 80GB USB drives (DISK1 for online storage and DISK2 for scheduled "backup"). Well, the NSLU2 no longer recognizes DISK2 and is therefore no longer performing backups - it hasn't been for a few weeks according to the logs.
The drive itself appears to be fine, so it's either a software or hardware issue with the NSLU2. I've tried both a restart/shutdown/recabling but have held off a full reset or firmware update until I can review/backup the current configuration (ran out of time tonight). I did duplicate their data elsewhere tho, so they have a copy of everything.
In the event it's a hardware failure on the NSLU2, can I get some recommendations for a comparable replacement device that can use the existing external drives? I checked out the Linksys NAS200 and a few similar devices tonight and they all seem to run in the $130-$160CDN range. Off to read some reviews...
Unfortunately, cost is a very real constraint for this customer.
