Network Speed Wierdness

I had 100MB up and down from my Fiber supplier.

Via wifi i got 100MB
Via Ethernet 100 Mb
Via my Devolo 500+ 30-40 MB in the other side of the house.(both wifi and ethernet)

I upgraded to 400MB I now get

Ethernet - 400MB
Wifi 100MB
Devolo 500+ 30-40 MB

The only increase is via the ethernet connection (all cables are cat 6)

The 400mb comes directly out to of the ports on the back of the Fibre box .. wifi comes from a TP Link router.

I want to increase the speed in other parts of the house... any idea why the Devolo 500+ isn't improving?

Can anyone recommend a router that will work at these speeds?

Would a Mesh network be the answer? (I assume it would work with the Fiber box Huawei HG 8240)

Perhaps that WiFi router's wired ports are 10/100 only. Either way you definitely need an upgrade. By the way, you may still be disappointed with WiFi wireless speeds. 200mb with a strong AC connection that isn't in the same room as the router with direct line of site is a luxury. 75-100 is a more real world number. Understanding that as long as your new router has gigabit ports and AC then you should be good shape.

Check slickdeals or dealnews. I believe the TP-Link Archer 2600 is currently on sale for $90 from newegg and yesterday another Linksys 1750 AC (I think) was ~$50.

The Devolo page says up to 500 Mbps for that model, which is 62.5 MBps. And if you have multiple devices connected to an adapter, I'd say you are right around what you can expect on such a device.

The Devolo is a Repeater. Repeaters are a "Joke" to be used for serious WIFI.

Serious WIFI involves laying CAT6 cables to few locations and installing at the end of the cable Access Point. or Wireless Router configured as an Access Point.
