Network speed drops to 10mb whenever a transfer starts

Just installed Vista x64 a few weeks ago, everything works fine. Except this. If I try to copy a larger file, IE > 50mb, my connection speed will drop from 1gb to 10mb. And then the transfer will fail. All of the time, 100%. I am unable to cut and paste a 700mb file from my computer to my server for storage; it always fails.

Any ideas?

actually, i think i fixed it by installing the latest drivers from realtek's site instead of using the ones that came with vista.
