I'm currently using a few programs that involve P2P connections, either for file sharing or gaming. Is there any way I can log the IP addresses of the computers that connect to me? i don't want to do this for any malicious reason.. there are a few friends in these networks who I no longer want to connect with. So first step, identify their IP address.. second step, a utility that will block those addresses from connecting to my computer. I can't do it witht the software I'm using.

Any suggestsions? Sorry if this is a fairly easy thing to do, I know very little about net working and couldn't get very far with google :)

thanks!!

This is a litlte bit of a bump, but also some answers to my own question, from a more knowledgeable friend!

1. IP logging can be done easily in Windows XP (which I have) by turning on security logging in the Windows Firewall control panel. Who knew?? (that's rhetorical, obviously). It's a little inelegant, but it works.

2. My friend suggested that I try using a HOSTS file (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). I haven't tried this yet but I will tonight.

Anyone got easier, or better solutions? Easier *and* better solutions?

How do I do that? For example, I use Windows XP built-in firewall. I've tinkered with the different options, but I don't see options for blocking specific IP addresses, just ports. Thanks!

try a different firewall, or, if you have a spare box lying around, you can turn *that* into a firewall
