Network sharing restriction question

Hi, I have a LAN wired network setup between 4 computers in my house which is shared between me and my siblings. Anyways, I was wondering how I could restrict my shared folders on XP to only certain computers on the network rather than everyone on the network as it is now. If possible how can i set up a password on my computer so that others on the network can't access my shared folders without it. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of a way to restrict it by computer per se, but you can set permissions for the share to allow only certain usernames to access the share.

The username on the local machine should match the username trying to connect from the remote machine, and you need to set the "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts" Local Security Policy in the MMC to "Classic - local user authenticate as themselves.

Then in your share permissions, delete the "Everyone" permission, and add users or groups that you wish to allow or deny access.

Windows XP home you have to use the shared folders which are supplied by the OS' in order to set restrictions/permissions. Windows XP Pro you can do it to whatever foldern you want.
