I have two computers sharing a cable connection using a Linksys befsr41 router. Is there any way that they will act like I network, so when I open "My Network Places" I will be able to go into the other computer? Also, how would I set up the computers to share my printer? I checked the Anandtech FAQ, but I didn't really understand it.

well, just make sure they both are on the same workgroup, and you should be ok. what OS are they both running?

btw...this should really be moved over to the networking forum

and i assume both are using DHCP through that router?

so are they both on the same workgroup?

if so, they should see each other in network neighborhood.

DHCP = dynamic host control protocol, a fancy way of saying that your IP addresses are automatically assigned from a pool of available IPs as opposed to having the same IP (static) all the time.

I have the same router, and have about 10 systems sharing 1 public IP on a dsl circuit, and I'm just using private IPs for the internal LAN. networking, filesharing and networked printer all work fine. As long as you have assigned both your systems to the same workgroup, they should be able to see each other. Note - sometimes it takes up to 15 minutes for your systems to find each other when you have just turned them on, unless you do find->other computers.

<< how do i assign the computers to the same workgroup? >>

right click on "my computer"

network identification...properties...
then under workgroup call it something (it's probably defaulted to "workgroup").

so check both and make sure they're the same.
