I own a caymen router and its only a 10mbit switch. If i were to but a 10/100 switch w/ a uplink on it. Then just have 1 cable going from router to uplink port on the switch. Then just have my pc's on the switch that way communication between them is faster but if i go on net then i'm at 10mbit.

Could I do that.... Just thinking might be alittle better and faster then useing the router for everything. But still have all the advantages of a router,nat,etc....

In general, switches don't have uplink ports. That's OK, however - An Ethernet crossover cable (available anyplace that sells computers or any cable company) will let you connect two hubs/switches together without a crossover port.

What you are proposing will work just fine. Very commonly-done.

Russ: you beat me to it....but then he was recommending Linksys SOHO crap switches to some guy in another thread in a corporate environment.
 
Garion and I are not used to switches that have uplink ports. MOST switches don't have a uplink port. With the SOHO stuff being the exception.
