Network problems: Win 98 to Win 2000

I am trying to establish a home network between two machines, one Win 98 SE, the other Win 2000. They're connected by cable thru a SpeedStream router to a cable modem to the Internet. Both machines have INet access, and each machine can ping the other, so there are no connectivity problems.

On the Win98 machine, in Network Neighborhood, I can see the Workgroup and the Win98 below that, but no Win 2000 machine. A search for the Win2000 returns Not Found.

On the Win2000 I have an icon for the Win98, but double clicking gives "\\Win98 is not accessible. Network path was not found."

Both units have separate IP addresses, but the addresses for the DNS and DHCP servers are the same (should I have both servers?)

I think it's a name resolution issue but don't know whether to change settings on the Win98, the Win2000 or both. Please help!

Thanks.

Thanks very much for the info! Switching to Netbeui, and making it the default protocol did the trick!
