I've had AOE: The Conquerors Expansion for sometime now, and have played it a lot up at my college. Originally, I played it on my celeron 550 voodoo3 3000 system. Well, the game was never exactly "stable" and it froze from time to time. I'm pretty sure it's from shitty video drivers in XP. I was wondering if anyone else knew of any sites where I could get a voodoo3 driver for XP that may be better or more stable than MS's.
I currently have 3 computer networked back at my home, and I've been trying to set up some network games of "AOE:TC" so I can play with my family. This computer (The celeron/voodoo3) continually crashes at random intervals, usually between 15 and 60 minutes into a game. It has a linksys 10/100 etherfast card. The other two computers, an old Dell p2 400, and my nForce AMD XP 1800+ seem to run fine, however everynow and then I've experienced an "out of sync" error which terminates the network games. This is particularly annoying, because it usually occurs late in the game. I think it may be because the nForce is running a 100mbps connection, but the dell only has a 10mbps ISA network card. I would expect the same problems from my celeron 550 because it too is connected at 100mbps, but the damn thing never stays on long enough to tell.
I installed Sygate Home Network 4.2 to enable internet connection sharing. Is it necesarry? Someone told me that winXP can do the internet sharing on it's own if it's configured the right way. I noticed a slight stability increase using sygate, so I'll probably continue to use it.
If anyone has any suggestions about how to make the network, the computer and the games more stable, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
