Network Problem

I'm having a problem with internet sharing between two networked computers. It was working fine for months, then I played a few multi-player games with my brother, across the LAN, and now the internet on my computer isn't working properly. It's really slow and sometimes just totally stops working for a minute or two.

Anyone know what the problem is?


These are the computers:

The first is my computer (see sig) running win2K.
It has only one network (LAN). Under properties it has:
-Client for Microsoft Networks
-File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks
-NWLink NetBIOS
-NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
-Internet Protocol


The other computer (my Dad's) is running winXP home. It has a dial-up internet connection, and a LAN connection.
-Client for Microsoft Networks
-File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks
-QoS Packet Scheduler (***This is the only difference I can see***)
-NWLink NetBIOS
-NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
-Internet Protocol

My Dad's NIC has been working fine for the last year, and still seems to work fine on the LAN. My NIC is integrated into my MoBo.

It's just on the internet, not the gaming.

Sounds like the nic's are alright. Could be just a temporary problem with the Internet or it could be your Dad's modem. Check the settings.
You might also want to check the ICS (internet connection sharing) settings on your Dad's computer, if thats what you are using.

On a side note, are the netbios/ipx/spx protocols necessary for your gaming?

Update: I manually configured my IP & Gateway (they were set to automatic before), and now it works alright, except for some reason I can't access any encrypted sites (my banking and email).

Any ideas on those then?...

The Internet games most likely made a change to your registry that has a direct effect on your network. Try System Restore to a date just before you played those Internet games. That will restore your registry to a pre-sabotage state.
