Network problem after updating WinXP?

I installed WinXP SP1 Pro. I have been using belkin Wireless Cable/DSL gateway router before. Right After I finish installation everything works fine. Then I go ahead with those critical updates. After updates finished I lost my connection to internet. The light on router is still on. It still shows as connected. But it just can not display anything.

What is more strange is everytime after I restart my computer I can connect to internet once. I mean just once. After the first connection I lost internet again. I have reinstalled WinXP few times. Everytime it is like this. Now I am afraid to do all the updates, but we should know that those updates are important. What should I do?

Any suggestion is hightly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

I don't know about anyone else but I noticed I had trouble with my XP system after doing the Netbios update. I uninstalled it and everything worked fine so maybe this is the culprit for you too. This is the update name: "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB824105)".

This is why I usually do updates one at a time because you never know when MS is going to put out a bad patch and it's easier to uninstall one patch than to try and pinpoint a bad one among many.

In your case, if you already have all the patches installed go to C:\Windows directory and look for the above installed patch and uninstall it. See if that clears up your problem.

REMEMBER....these are hidden folders that read like this "$NtUninstallKB823559$" and you have to make sure that your folder options -> view settings -> "hide protected operating system files" checkbox is DEselected in order to even see them.

Hope this helps.
