i have aquired a lexmark 4029 laser printer which has network capabilities. do i connect it to my server or connect it to my hub. i have client98 to server2k network via a hub. the printer does have a network adapter( do not know which type).

As long as it's connected somewhere. It can be directly connected to your server via LPT, or it can be connected to the hub. In the later case, you still need to configure a box to "host" the printer. Make sure that server has the proper driver(s) installed and that the printer has got it's own TCP/IP info (addy, subnet, etc).

You connect it to the hub the same way you do the systems; with a patch cable. Then, the printer will have to be configured for your network, IP address, subnet mask, gateway. This may be through the printer itself with some type of menu setup, or it may allow browser access. You may also need some type of utility software installed on the systems, especially Win98.

The alternative would be to simply hook the unit up to one of the systems via the parallel cable, install the drivers and map it.
