Hi,
I have a small network at work and every computer installed our new network printer (HP P1606DN) except 1. It gets to the point where the installer says "Installing driver" then it gives the error message "Printer installation failed. A new printer was not installed." I've tried looking for an updated driver from HP but there isn't one.

I've tried deleting all the temp files ... that didn't work. (was suggested on HP website)

I'm logged in as the administrator when I'm trying to install and I've also tried the user account.

The printer is connected via the ethernet port and I just can't understand why this one PC won't install it.

there is not any firewall software on the machine that cannot install it? I know the hp installers are picky when it come to firewalls as they need like 9 different sup programs to be allowed.

the other thing you can do is install the printer manually by going into add new printer, select standard tcp/ip port and enter the ip address of the printer and then point to the drivers.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried to add it manually but when I type in the IP address it just comes back with an error that I must of typed the name of the printer wrong. I've tried the following

\\192.168.50.53
192.168.50.53

I tried it in all 3 tabs in the add printer section. I'm certain that I have the IP address correct.

There is no firewall on the PC and I have un installed the Anti virus just in case it was that.

I've also tried to disable all services when I startup but that didn't work either.

Add printer Wizard --> Local printer, uncheck auto, click next. Tick the create a new port radio button, Standard TCP/IP. Plug in your IP, and select the driver.

Thats for XP, Win7 is pretty much the same.

I just figured that out... what gunbuster said worked and for some reason I had 12 ports already for that IP... probably how many times I've tried to install it. I deleted all the ports and went through the manual installation. After trawling through the install CD to find all the driver files it finally works.

Thanks all for your help, this has been driving me nuts.
