Network printer loses connection after restart

I have Verizon FIOS coming into a D-Link router (model DI-604) and then into a SynOptics LattisHub 2813. I have connected an HP laserjet 3800dn, five PC's, an X-Box, and a wireless router to the hub. The 3800 software is installed on the five PC's and I could at one time print from all PC's. When I shut everything down and restart, the PC's cannot connect to the printer. Oh yeah, I'm new to networking 🙂

A few additional comments:

1. Not sure why I can't just plug my FIOS line right into the hub instead of the router...I thought these both do the same thing? I got the hub for free, do I need something more updated.

2. I just ordered a Buffalo 300GB network additional storage (NAS) hard drive ($279 at NewEgg) and read about assigning it a static IP...perhaps I need to do this for the printer? Hopefully I can access this NAS from remore sites with my laptop as I travel?

Thanks for the help folks, but be easy with asking me questions and giving me advice...I don't know what DHCP is or how to change IP addresses. I could also use a good website that explains all of this about one step above ignoramus and just below idiot. BUT, I do know where the experts are and how to ask for your help 🙂
