Network Printer Issue in Vista 32-Bit

Ok, weird question here. I'm pretty new to Vista, I've only upgraded to it since the begining of Feb. I have to say that barring an update that won't install, I've have no issues with the OS. Except now....

I have a printer (HP 7150) hooked up to another computer running XP Professional SP2. This printer is set up as a shared device to print to. My wife has a laptop that is running XP Home SP2, and has no problem spooling print jobs to my network printer. In comes my new Vista box :0

I add a network printer....it see's it....I install drivers....everything is ready to go....nothing ever makes it to print. I hook the printer directly up to the Vista box and wola! It prints just fine. Obviously (not so obviously?) there is some sort of permission inside Vista that is not allowimg me to print. By the way, I see no error messages generated.

Any ideas?

Add the printer address manually - I've had the same problem with the wireless printing on the HP 8450 connected to my wireless router.

Adding the printer router address, ex. 182.158.1.94 solved the problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response!

However, I'm not using a print server box. I'm using the 2nd computer running XP professional as the print server. So should I enter in the IP of the 2nd computer then?

Interesting!

I installed a network printer on my Vista lappy.

If I run a test page from the printer module, it works fine, but if I try to print something from, say, MS Office, the printer errors out, soooo...

If I want to print something, I have to move the file to another computer on my LAN - which is a major PITA.

I thought it was just me! 🙂

Hopefully, someone has a workaround for this!

BTW, I'm running Vista HP SP1, and SP1 made '0' difference, in this regard...

Have you tried using the Universal Print Driver from HP?

It does a good job of picking up network HP printers to print to.
