Network printer FAIL

Ok I have a Konica Minolta magiccolor 5430DL on the network at ip 192.168.1.105 on a linksys WRT310N router.

I have a windows xp machine and a vista machine. Both of them can see the printer on the network without issue, but neither can ADD the printer. When I see the printer on the network it has:

Printer information:
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

When I double click to add the printer windows popup error is:

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed."

I've never seen this issue but its not specific to this computer. Maybe something in the router? Firewalls are turned off on both machines when trying this. I just dont understand how I can SEE the printer there but not ADD it.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks much in advance!

Are you really sure you can "see" the printer?

Windows has a VERY annoying habit of displaying network devices that it saw once, but can't see anymore.

Here's a test for you. Delete the printer you can "see". Unplug the printer from the network, and plug it back in. I'd wager you can't see it anymore.

#1 - does the printer have a static IP? If not, get the mac address (the printer should have the ability to print out it's information) and go into the router and set that mac address to a static IP.

#2 Now go back and re-add the printer using the static IP address.

Good luck!

Yep I set it to a static IP and restarted everything. It can still SEE the printer. I just can't ADD it to my machine.

When I go to the printer info page in a browser (built in software from konica) I can change its config however I like. I can also ping the device from my 2 machines.

I just can't ADD the printer in windows. ANY IDEAS?

Network printers don't normally use windows file/printer sharing. Run the setup utility that comes with your printer and it will properly add it.

Otherwise you can manually add it as a LPR printer and specify the IP address and load the drivers.

I tried it this way and the software bundle didn't work. It just went through the normal method of installing like a windows printer.
