network newbie needs help with dorm connection

i just got to college and there's only one connection in our room. The college provided an Asante hub for us to use but i can't seem to get it to work. I did everything the instructions stated but still no luck. the green leds on the hub and NIC are on, but not blinking. i helped one of my suite mate in another room set up his PC and it's working fine (no hub) so would this be a hub problem or should i look into something else? as usual, the tech support sucks... thanks for any help!

James,

How many roomates are on your hub?
How many IP addresses does your connection support?
Perhaps you need a router or NAT on one of your machines (to act as a router).

Just a thought, but you can't have a PC connected to the port next to the hub's uplink. I did that a couple of times in HS and it will light up all the LED's but nothing worked.
