Network Monitoring

So what do you guys use to monitor your servers... like if a service goes down, the software emails or alerts you etc.

Any recommendations ?

we use nagios for customer alerting and solarwinds internally. we run a combo of caida/flowtools, mrtg, prtg, cacti and cricket for our bandwidth metering. Have to pick the right tool for the right job 🙂

edit - we're also considering moving our internal stuff off of solarwinds and onto Nagios v2 with the the groundworks package

I struggle to justify solarwinds when nagios is free.

I like nagios myself. Haven't looked at the groundworks stuff yet though.
