Network Internet Problems

A Casual Fitz

Diamond Member
Tonight I decided to bring over my computer to my friends house for a LAN session. Much to my not surprise, my internet didn't work when everything was hooked up. Basically...when I'm plugged in I get the exclamation point in the taskbar and a "Limited or no connection" message deal. I've tried everything I can think of including plugging my comp directly into the internet hub with no avail. I'm fresh out of ideas. Any thoughts are welcome

That message usually means that your computer recognizes that there is a network connection available, but it was not able to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. If you were using wireless, I would suspect an encryption problem. If you were wired, I would suspect that the friend's router is set to a limited number of IP addresses and there weren't any more available to give to your computer.

Internet hub? Are you saying you plugged directly into the router? If so what were you plugged into before?

Describe the physical setup better. Much better.

If by Internet Hub you mean Modem? It should not work because your computer can not authenticate. Kind of like your car keys can not start your friend's car.

Otherwise, it did not work because it probably configured with Network parameters that fits your home system and Not your friend's system.

I've tried plugging myself directly into the Internet to no avail. Before, my friends and I were plugged into my hub which was plugged into the internet. The extra frustration comes with the fact that I've brought my computer here before multiple times and it's worked flawlessly. Nothing about this time is different. At this point I've reformatted my hard drive and still no internet.

BAH!
