I'm having a unique problem on one of my Windows XP Home SP2 machines.

I have fully tested that both the ethernet and wireless network adapter is working perfectly. The drivers are working properly. Both can grab an IP and can also ping any web address and get a response.

However, If I open any program within windows to connect to the internet(FTP, IE, POP3). It doesn't seem to work. I also checked all the services within the Administration panel and made sure all the default services were running.

I'm still not able to connect to the internet. What's the problem?

you needto try a few things first.

1. diable the firewall in xp which does lockdown your system. to do this open up control panel click on windows firewall icon or sercurity center icon and click on disable.

2. if this machine has been exposed to the internet previosly you might have been infected with viruses or malware.

3. you might have corrupt winsock protocols use a utility called winsockfix

i recommend adaware with the latest defs and nod32 for virus removal.

reply back if this hasent worked for you.
anyway hope it has.
