Thought i'd share a simple network i did for one of our local branches.

Network Cabinet

Pretty simple setup - SmartLite UPS, 24 Port Patch Panel, 24 Port unmanaged switch, Cisco 1711 w/ T1 WIC, a couple Symbol 802.11 AP's for our MU's (not pictured), 2 power over ethernet modules (white boxes w/ green cords) and a small 5 port switch that the AP's are connected to. T1 not shown. This is my first 'from scratch' install and i'm fairly happy with the results. Open to any constructive criticism if you've got some.

Feel free to share some of your own pics of network installations! Always nice to finish a job and be proud of the work you've done.

looks great!

The only advice I can offer (specifically for branch offices) is keep it simple - the fewer the amount of devices the better, and always make sure you can reach the rack with a modem.

so you could slap in a cisco 2800 series router (with CSU) with a power over ethernet switch built in and a modem card. That gives you the ability to quickly troubleshoot any problems without having to do it over the phone or making a trip. Sure it may cost a little more, but people and downtime cost a lot more money than a few thousand bucks.

-oh- I'm always for providing more LAN ports than initially called for, they always increase. So back to my point, a single 48 port switch would be better than chaining 12 or 24 port switches together. I don't remember how many switchports a 2800 can provide but there is a break point.

Thanks Spidey.

I'll have to look into the 2800 on our next install. Upside of using the Symbol POE modules is their CHEAP (like $40 a pop - not including AC adapter though). I've had good success with them in past wireless installs and no hiccups after 3 years of service (knock on wood).

The office actually only has 4 people that work there (and a 30,000 sq/ft building - althought there is something like 15-18 network devices). Next time i'll definitely install a 48 port switch & patch and avoid the hassle of tearing apart the network cabinet for a new drop or something.

Thanks for the comments!
