Network Help Needed

Hi.

My dad is starting a new job working from home and he needs to be able to give remote access to his company from his work computer at home. He has Comcast Cable and I have him set up with a wireless router (Buffalo). He currently has his personal computer and my mom's personal computer hard wired to it and then they use a laptop in wireless mode.

All the computers on the home network are behind the router and they are all using Windows XP Pro. I also have them all set up with limited user accounts that they use to surf the internet and download emails to protect them from malware.

Here are the questions that I have:

How would I give the company access to anything if my dad's computers are behind a router/firewall?

If I can give access, how would I give them access to just his work computer on the network without giving them access to the rest of the computers on his home network?

Would I be able to give the company remote access to his computer if I have my dad set up in a limited user account in XP Pro? I especially want to set up a limited account for his work computer because his job would require him to open emails from strangers.

TIA,

Sal

Your Dad should speak to the IT group/system administrator at the office.

Setting a VPN connection to your Dad's computer would allow connection only to his computer.

In general it is done by pointing a port in the Router open only toward Dad's computer.

However since it involv a Business network on the other side, do what Markbnj suggested above.
