Network Goofiness Help!

I have a peer to peer network running on win98se (all boxes). I am using a linksys befsr41 (cable modem).

Here is the deal, a couple of days ago, I started getting some weird file corruptions when I tried to pull image files from my file server box to my main box. Images would come over half green or half of the image was missing. They are fine if you view them on the file server. Also, if I try to pull setup files from the file server, they are always corrupt however, if I run them on the file server they are fine. To make matters more confusing, if I download a file directly to my main box it runs fine , however, if I download it to a mapped drive on the file server it gets corrupted.

Both boxes are overclocked however, I have tried them at stock speed and there is no difference.

I have tried everything I can think of replaced the NIC's, uninstalled and reinstalled tcp/ip, netbeui etc. etc.

The boxes are as follows:
File Server: a7v, duron 700 @ 1000 (10x100), dlink dfe530tx+, promise pci raid controller with 2x ibm 7200rpm 45GB drives, Generic 384MB SDRAM
Main Box: a7v133, tbird 1333 @ 1522 (145x10.5), dlink dfe530tx+, WD 7200RPM 10GB HD, Maxtor 7200RPM 20GB HD, 256MB Mushkin Rev 2 SDRAM.

Any and all suggestions/help is appreciated.

Hmm.. for file corruption over the network the first thing I would check would be the physical layer. Check your cabling.. make sure your cables are good, terminated etc.

I've kind of narrowed it down a little. I can transfer files from 2 other boxes amongst each other but anything coming from my file server is corrupted. I changed out the patch cable there and it still corrupts files. I tried going through a different switch so that isn't it. I've swapped out network cards and it still is doing it. Could it be a software issue?

Hook up a crossover cable between your file server and another computer.. that way you eliminate the switch, wiring etc.

See if the problem still continues.. if it does and you already swapped out nics and patch cable then yes its software.
