Network extraordinaire needed

I am running a Ventrilo server on a thin client computer. I can connact to the server from the local LAN IP address which is 192.168.1.207, but I can't connect with my external IP address even though the ports are forwarded. Apparently my router doesn't allow loopbacks? but I can contact to my built in SSH server in the router with my external IP address and domain name and log into the router's setup page with the external IP address and domain name. What gives? Why can't I do a loopback when SSH works and the router setup page works?

Hardware used: WRT54GL router running DD-WRT.

what IP's are you using for each interface? Could be a routing issue, does everyone know how to get to everyone else(ie does your ventrilo have a valid default gateway)

Well as I stated above the Vent server resides on a thin client with the IP of 192.168.1.207. Not sure what you are asking about a valid default gateway.

The router recognizes the external IP as it's own IP address on one of its interfaces so it responds to that request, but it doesn't forward ports through that external IP unless the request actually comes through the interface (the WAN port) that is using that IP address.

Some routers do allow what you are describing, but some - such as the WRT54G - don't do it (mine doesn't work that way either).
