I have my computer running through a wired linksys BEFSR41. This BEFSR41 router has DHCP disabled, and is acting like more of a gateway than anything. In one of the regular LAN ports, there's a cable providing internet access coming from my netgear WGR614 V6. Now my local IP address is 192.168.1.3, this is assigned to me by the Netgear WGR614 V6.

Here's the big issue, when I try to connect to my sister via a webcam through Aol instant messenger video, it sometimes will not work at all, or it will work for about 10 seconds at most, and then loses connection.

Locally, I am unable to figure out how to reach the Linksys router, as I am routed through it, but going to an IP address such as "192.168.1.1" only routes me clear past the linksys, to the Netgear router.

How do I even get this to work? It seems ridiculously hard, and if you can figure it out, I swear you're godlike in the networking area.

what ip address do you have assigned to the linksys? if you're strickly on the linksys switchports, you should only need to forward on the netgear.

refer here for AIM Video FAQ.

Ok well here's the deal, The reason I'm using two routers is that whoever designed my apartment stuck the coax line that goes to my modem on the other side of the room (AKA the absolute WORST place for it to go, they were just cutting corners).. So I already wired my whole apartment through my attic. There's a network drop in every room. In my room, where the network drop is, the ethernet cord drops down to my BEFSR41 and then routes to my 360 and my PC.

I understand It's complicated, and makes things really hard to run, I was just wondering for future reference if there's anything I can do to make this actually work. Knowledge is always good.

Next week I get paid again so I can afford a 50+ ft run of coax so that I may run another coax line through the attic, up and over to the same place I put the network drop. This will allow me to use my modem directly by my computer, as well as just one router.

I honestly cannot believe where they put the coax line, it's pretty stupid and the absolute worst spot that you could ever put the coax, there's hardly even room for a tv there because it would get in the way of the bed/walking to the bathroom. In addition to this, I was just thinking that I will need to harvest the runs of network cable I already did in the attic and run them over to the correct spot along with the new run of coax so that I may hook up the modem and router on the other side of the room...

This is the biggest mess, but it will feel good when I've got it done. I know there's wireless and all.. but wired is so much faster than wireless.
