Hey guys,
Im not too familiar with networking, but I am doing some work at an automotive place and i've fixed quite a few things but theres a problem with their network drives that I can't seem to figure out.
First of all, they have two computers networked together, its an older place, and they are both running Windows ME. The first problem is that when you start up the secondary computer that is accessing the network drive on the main computer, it won't recognize the that the network drive exists under My Computer. They have an automotive database program for their cars which is located on the main computer that must be accessed on the second computer, and when you click on the shortcut to use the program it explains that it " Cannot find the file associated with this shortcut" or something similar.
So, they have a text document thats also located on the network drive that they must use, which when opened, will access the network drive and after that, the network drive shows up under My Computer.
Bizarre by my standards, you must do this every time you reboot the computer.
Not only that, but after you get the program working, it seems to load up really slowly. Much slower than the main machine does.
These two programs both started around the same time, as I was told.
I have added more memory and upgraded the processor on this machine, but the system still runs slow when loading the program, so I believe that this must be a network problem.
Does anyone know what the problem could be or maybe could steer me in the right direction? Greatly Appreciated!
