Network Drive Mappings in Win2K Pro

I have an interesting and annoying problem with Windows 2000 Professional on my work system.

I have the system set to automatically map on boot-up to the network drives I use normally. However, many of the programs we use here were originally written to run on DOS machines, and some of them include DOS drive mapping commands as part of their loading sequence. When I run any of these programs on my machine and they issue a drive mapping for a drive that I already have mapped, Windows Explorer pops up, displaying the contents of that network drive. Other than being extremely annoying, and forcing me to close these Explorer windows, this doesn't seem to be a problem and I could manage to live with it if I have to. However, I'd really appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to tell Win2K to NEVER automatically display the contents of a newly mapped/remapped network drive.

Thanks for your help!

Good question, I found some links that might help. Here and here. Hope this helps. The first link kinda sux but hey you never know. The second talks about mapping the drives statically in NWneighborhood, not as convenient as the Mapping of a network drive but may server as a decent option in this case.

Those are pretty good links with a lot of other good information for Windows as well. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the problem is with DOS programs doing the mappings and opening the new Windows Explorer windows, so these fixes aren't quite what I needed... :(

I was hoping for a Registry hack, or something similar, that will simply tell Windows to never open a new Explorer window when a drive is mapped. Any ideas?

Thanks again!
