In general, there are two types of Network Diagramming.

1. A Dynamic Network Diagramming.

This usually a program that can scan the Network store the Network info and then generate a diagram that combines pictorial view of the network with all network information embedded in the diagram.

Fluke use to offer such an application as well as few other vendors.

At the moment the dominant application that is available, comprise of a combo of Solarwind LANsurveyor and Visio.

An excellent combo works very well. Alas, it is expensive.
2. Manual Network Diagramming.
This comprises of using a regular diagramming program and entering manually with test boxes the Network info.

Many programs allow drawing Network Diagram. Prices start with $20 and go up to few hundred for the real sophisticated application.

Free?

This is a simple Diagramming program.

There are many templates available to download on the page.

I tried LanSurveyor a while ago and didn't care for it too much. Not sure if it was a bug or not, but even if I put only a certain snmp key it somehow still detects our printers, computers, etc and clutters up the map. Takes a while to clean it up.
