network connections stays disconnected

i came back from a 3 day vacation and noticed that my network connection is disconnected. i have not physically changed anything. i tried swapping cables and using a different switch/ports but the connection stays disconnected. all the other computers are fine connected to the same switch. could my onboard nic all of a sudden just break?

Install a different NIC and see if it works.
