Network connections Icons missing.

I recently transfered a hard drive to another computer. I unistalled all drivers before i moved it. Both MBs use Nvidia drivers. Since then the computer works perfect except for one thing. Under "network connections" there are no icons. Therefore I cannot change the properties.

The internet is working fine. The NIC has the proper drivers and is displayed under "device manager" as installed and working. When I run IP config it is being assigned a ip from DHCP.

I searched microsoft support and performed a lot of suggestions they had but still I cannot get the icons to show.

The only thing I have found that is unusual is the name of my network connection. Im sure it was "Local area connection" before. Using netsh I discovered the connection is now named "{05d800d5-01ff-4e3c-a3f4-1631600b162b}". Doing a registry search I find it mentioned many times. When I search for the old name ""Local area connection" I find it in 2 places. The new name,"{05d800d5-01ff-4e3c-a3f4-1631600b162b}", is not mentioned in either place. "Local area connection 2" is also listed.

It seems like deleting some keys or renameing the connection might work. So far I have been unable to rename it. Any help would really be appreciated.

I would just reformat and start but this computer is configured with a lot of programs and it takes days to set up again. Thank you.

remove the card from device manager (and show hidden devices and remove those too) and reboot. That may fix it.

I tired that many times. I finally gave up. I decided to bite the bullit and reformat. I have found a few people with this problem and it can be a real bitch to repair. I found a MS article saying this problem may be addressed in a future service pack.
