I installed a new motherboard the Iwill KK266 (after abandoning the MSI pro2a)... anyway I am having trouble getting my network connection to work...

I have a 3 computer network via a Linksys cable/router which connects to a DSL modem (SWbell)... all WinMe systems... it worked prior to the MB upgrade... but now I can't access the network or the internet...

When I first checked the network settings there were 2 instances of my Network card driver so I deleted one of them... no luck... then I deleted everything and let the computer reinstall the nic...

Nothing... lame-O windows troubleshooter suggests I already have an identical identity on the network, maybe it is confused with my previous MB... anyway I changed my Identity and still nothing works...

I set it on Microsoft Networks client and Windows log in, neither worked... I added NetBui... although the other pcs on my network only have TCP installed (and work fine as did my PC before the new MB)

Another thing I used to have a logon screen when WinMe started (which I tried to get rid of but never could figure out how) well since the MB install that has dissappeared... so maybe that is related to my problem..

Any ideas?

Other than that this Iwill KK266 is performing stellar (much better than my previous board)

If you look on the back of your PC is the link light on? (little green light on the NIC)

I've not had the chance to work with Win ME yet (I have it, but I don't have a PC to put it on yet) but if it is anything like Win 2000 there is a setting that logs the hardware settings on the PC. Have you tried switching slots on the MB? it worked for me.

It is a kingston nic... I moved it to another slot but that did not work....

there are 4 lights 100, fdx, lnk, and act.... 3 of them are lit all the time... but 'act' if off all the time...

I ran winipcfg... and the differences between the results and the result of the other computers was -

1. DNS box was blank whereas on my other computers there is an address
2. IP Autoconfiguration address = 169.254.77.229 whereas on my other computers this parameter is labeled IP Address and the value is 0.0.0.0

In the network settings, under the IP tab, on the non working computer Obtain an IP address automatically is checked but the 'detect network connection' box is greyed out, on my working computers Obtain an IP address... is checked and so is the detect network connection box.

Any ideas?

you might want to try to copy the settings from one of the working computers, and phisically insert it into the settings of the non working computer (adjust the IP so it is not exactly the same. use 169.254.77.230
