Hi... a good friend of mine sent me this email this morning. I am guessing that the questions might be for some test he is taking.. but I am not sure... ANY help will be appreciated and reciprocated in one way or another..

If there is not enough info supplied I can try to get more.. or if the answers require long exhausting answers then maybe some compensation to you *idunno...

Thanks in advance

I was wondering if you had some technical answers for a couple questions, or if you might be able to post them in a tech chat room to acquire the answers...any help would be gratefully appreciated.

1) The client's computer is running Novell Client and the user is requesting you map a drive to a windows NT server. What might you experience?

2) After you login to the network, you find the following:
Your IP address is 159.121.105.233; Net mask is 255.255.255.0; Gateway is 159.121.105.0 . You are unable to access the Internet, print to network printers, and you can't access network sites. Why?

3) Client states their computer is running slower than normal and freezes up sporadically. What might cause this?

4) You attempt to login to the network and you get the "no tree or server found" error prompt. Your IP address is 10.15.15.30; Net mask is 255.255.255.0; Gateway is 10.15.15.1. You do not have access to the shared volume, no NIC light and you are unable to print. Why?

#2: The gateway is set to the network address

If you have the IP 159.121.105.233 and a /24 mask you get:

159.121.105.0 - Network Address
159.121.105.1 - First Usable IP
159.121.105.254 - Last Usable IP
159.121.105.255 - Broadcast Address

#4: If there is no NIC light then the NIC could be bad, the hub/switch port could be bad or maybe the cable between them is bad.

Edit: dphantom is right

Those look like CCNA test questions. I studied for my own CCNA as well as MCSE and CCA certs. Found researching my own answers a lot better for learning. That's my advice to your firend.

Thank you both aves2k and dphantom... I also agree that studying and finding the answer on your own is 100's times more helpful for his future..

#1 it will map to a windows server as it does without the client loaded. The client is an add-on, and does not replace existing network services.
#2 has been convered, very basic IP, and is first semester knowledge.
#3 virus, spyware, hard disk drive going bad, CPU fan running slow, heat sink fins clogged with dust. would have to see the list of choices to pick the best fit.
#4 LAYER 1 failure, very basic troubleshooting
