Network card resource conflict

I recently had the motherboard and network card in my Sony Vaio replaced.

Sometimes during POST I receive two "Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller" messages.

Why would this happen sometimes and not others?

At first I was not able to see a common thread among the occurrences, but now I've noticed that it only happens when the computer has been off for some time.

After receiving the messages, powering off the computer and powering it back on eliminates the conflicts. The conflicts don't reappear until the unit has been powered off for an extended period.

Maybe a motherboard battery issue? I've noticed that along with the conflicts I get a "System configuration data updated message." When the conflicts don't occur, this message also does not show.

What do we think?

UPDATE1: sent it back to Sony AGAIN. They replaced the keyboard and the wireless LAN card.

Unfortunately, they did not fix the problem. It's still happening. Woe unto me.

UPDATE2: They sent me a brand new, upgraded replacement unit. Way to go Sony.

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ340P.

The motherboard had to be replaced due to liquid damage. The miniPCI wireless card was also replaced.

Yeah, that's it...

It's completely possible that they did reuse it, despite the fact that they listed the wireless card as one of the replaced parts.

Think the old card is causing problems?

well, could you download and install http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php and run it and see if it shows any hardware conflicts?

also, I've dealt with Sony, had a PS2 sent in and they supposedly replaced the drive, mind you mine was a slim, I got bad a busted up old fat PS2, and they swore up and down they sent back my unit. I always take whatever they say with a grain of salt.

Wanted to update this thread for those interested.

So I ended up sending the laptop back to Sony. They replaced a few more things, including the keyboard and the WLAN card (for the 2nd time). When they returned the unit to me, it was still showing the resource conflict.

I sent the laptop back to Sony again and they decided to replace it. Within a week they overnighted me a brand new, retail packed SZ650N/C. It's a considerable upgrade from my original SZ340.

I have to say, I'm very pleased with the way they handled this. I wasn't happy to have the laptop returned without the problem being fixed, but they definitely made up for it by sending me an upgraded unit. It lets me know that they do appreciate my business.

I will definitely buy another Sony laptop.
