Network card not recognizing ethernet connection

My computer is no longer recognizing my modem via the ethernet cable. It will only detect it if I use a USB cable. Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation? It had recognized it using the cable in the past, then last week I installed a new video card (deleting the old video drivers) and when I rebooted, my internet connection in the task bar was gone, and my computer would no longer think that the modem was connected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would try a linux liveCD to see if it recognizes it (unless it's an odd card not supported by linux). ALso, some info such as card type, onboard or card, shows up in DM, etc would be helpfull to us trying to help you.

Welcome to AnandTech Network forum.

My first thought would be IRQ conflict due to the new Video card installation.

Or and the Network card does not sit well in its PCI Slot.

Take the card out; reboot without the card, clean Device Manager Ghost, if any.

Switch Off insert the card reboot and reinstall the drivers.
