Network cable Quality

trouble free network cables,

all my desktop pc's are 10/100/1000 capable, some of my issues appear to be the low quaility cables i've been using, my runs are less than 50ft, what would be a better source for ready-made high quality cables.

soon ill put in place a home server to be used for backup imaging of the OS and data storage, the runs will be less than 50ft, with that in mind would a network setup using 1000mps really be needed ?

Any decent category 6 cable should be fine as long as they aren't homemade. 50 feet is pushing it as far as the maximum distance of a patch cable which is 10 meters. If you still have trouble you should get solid core category 6 cable and terminate it in keystone jacks, then use a short patch cable on each end.

If you're having performance problems the most likely cause is cable and then a duplex mismatch (full on one end and half on the other). So make sure to leave all your NICs set to autonegotiate speed/duplex as well as any switch/router they attach to and avoid homemade cables like the plague.

To do it right .

For runs longer than 30 feet use Solid Core CAT6 terminated into toeless Keystone jack (can be installed into the wall or with surface mount box).

From the Keystones jacks to the network devices use regular commercially made CAT6 patches.
In reality solid core is sold in bog spool and a user can end up spending close to $100 on a cable that 90% of it he would never use.

Thus an End-User can try a regular long CAT6 (100feet is about $12), if it works OK and there is No significant lose it is a reasonable solution.

thanks guys, with quaility cables i should be ok, i wont have but 1 25ft run.
