Windows network.

I have 2 subnets connected with W2K Server macine which serves as router with RRAS installed.
I can ping machines from one subnet to the other and back just fine, but network browsing is not working properly, eg I can?t get to see other subnets machines in My Network Places of the first subnet and vice versa.

Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled.

How do I fix this on the router?

At a minimum, you should ensure that the Win2K server is setup to be the browse master (so it's not an election), and it should perform "remote announce" to announce names on a network to remote networks. Ideally I would use Linux and Samba for this, since Windows doesn't really easly make those settings available.. This link may have with the setup of the domain/workgroup, and clients.

setting the W2k Router as master browser may work. You need to remember that Netbios names are resolved via broadcasts, so they won't pass through the router. You should still be able to access the machines via IP address. Intsalling a DNS server would fix the problem, then you could give fqdn's instead of IP's

Master browser is meaningless in your scenario. At least as it relates to resolving names on a different subnet. DNS should work though or WINS and a relay would also work. AD is setup and functioning yes?

You need to allow these ports UDP 137 and 138 and TCP port 139 for Netbios broadcasts to go across your "router", you can edit the host/lmhosts files on the PC's in each subnet, or you can set up WIN's service on your server and point all your PC's to it.

If the server is the master browser, then when somone access the browse list, it will see both sides. I have seen this on a non routing box. I couldn't access the computers, but I could see them.

AD is in place and working.
There is no WINS.

How do I set up relay?

This sounds right. Could you provide some more detail how to acctualy do this?

Thanks guys
