the server com is winxp pro, and the client com is winxp home. both have sp2 installed.
we have a little workgroup called "home". when i use the server to browse under "microsoft windows network" and to "home", i will wait what seems like forever, and it will tell me that the network is not available.
however, i have these shortcuts that appear under "my network places" (is that what it is normally called? i renamed it long ago), which i use to browse the client com and it works fast and well.
whenever i try to browse the "home" network, i also notice in event viewer that there are MrxSmb errors saying: "The redirector failed to determine the connection type."
how do i resolve that?
another question, do i need to set up a user account (for the server com) on the winxp home com so that my server can browse its shared folders? that is what i do, but i wonder if that is necessary at all because it can be cumbersome for the only user of that com to always have to select his user account to use the com.
i also notice that the server's shared folders do not automatically appear in its "my network places" folder. the user has to go to windows explorer and type in "\\server" in order to access them. even so, a dialog will pop up asking for the winxp home com to log in, which the user always has to do when accessing the server com.
i have a win2k com connected to the same "home" network with no such problems with having the server's shared folders appearing automatically too.
