Network bridging 2 private networks via VPN

I was wondering what it takes to have 2 private networks both hooked to the internet say via Road Runner and bridge them together with a VPN
so they have the same IP subnet and IP range? Even only have 1 DHCP server at one location that feeds the IP's to the computers on the private LAN at the other location. I thought there is a way with Windows 2000/2003 server but I'm not sure.

How would a DSL router fit into the situation? Would both Win Server Boxes (if they can do this job) have to be directly hooked to the Cable modems and the private LANs, or could it be done with a router on each end and certian ports forwarded to the Win2k/2k3 server boxes behind the Router?

It certainly can be done through routers. You need to know that ports you are forwarding though. And I'm not sure you can get a DHCP server to work across it. You can set up the server on one end to relay DHCP requests, however.

The best I can tell you is yes, it's possible; it might be slow; and you need to find a book to help do it, because it's too complex to really get into explaining here.
